About Soy Wax

With the introduction of vegetable based waxes the candle industry has been redefined. Many different vegetable waxes have become available, but Soy is by far the superior vegewax. Candles made with Soy wax have many advantages over traditional Paraffin and Beeswax candles. They are better for our health, the environment, and provide a better quality candle.

Biodegradable

Soy beans are pressed to extract their natural oils. This oil is then hydrogenated to turn it into a wax. A natural product, soy wax is friendly to the environment and is 100% biodegradable. Can your paraffin candle do that?

Easily Cleaned

Soy wax has a low melting point which facilitates very easy and effective cleaning. Hot tap water and soap will clean away any leftover wax. Soy wax also produces what is often referred to as "gray" soot instead of the common "black" soot that is produced by paraffin candles. "Gray" soot is much easier to clean and can be wiped away with a damp cloth. Further it is produced in much smaller quantities that paraffin candles and often times you will never even see it develop.

Low burn Temperature

With a lower burning temperature than most other candles, soy candles are safer to have around your home and business. When our container candles are burning they are still cool enough that you can dip your finger in the wax without scalding. Most paraffin candles would burn your skin if you came into contact with molten wax.

All Natural Renewable Resource

Since soy wax comes from the soy bean, the wax is 100% natural. Paraffin wax is a by-product of petroleum production and is not renewable. As long as we take care to maintain proper crops and fields soy is an renewable resource.

Long Lasting

Soy candles burn slower and last 30% - 50% longer than a comparable paraffin candle offering you a better value for your dollar.

Great Scent Throw

Soy Candles retain their scent for the life of the candle. The fragrance does not seep out over time. They also have a large scent/fragrance "throw" which will cover a large area.

Larger and Brighter

Soy candles lower melting point allow for all natural cotton and paper wicks to be used. These wicks allow us to create a larger brighter flame without creating excess smoke and soot. A soy candle provides a better atmosphere for your well being.

Characteristics

Soy wax has many natural characteristics that are often mistaken for defects in the candle. It is important to note that without the addition of additives these characteristics are very difficult to prevent. They are also a great indicator that the wax used to make the candle is 100% soy with no additives.

While these properties of soy wax do change the appearance of your candle it is important to know that it will not affect the burning or fragrance throw of your candle. To help prevent these changes from occurring you can store your soy candle in a cool dark location when not in use, but it will happen eventually.

Frosting

Also called blushing this is when the colour in a soy candle slowly turns to white. It can take on many different forms depending on the many factors that lead to frosting. It is similar to the occurrence of bleaching in fabrics. Over time Ultra Violet light causes the crystal structure of the wax to change slightly and eliminates the dyes.

Wet Spots

These are actually "dry" spots. Soy wax is sensitive to temperature in many different ways. Environmental factors both during and after production can cause the wax to contract and expand. This can leave a small air pocket against the glass container, which looks like a wet spot. Once again this will not affect the burning quality of your candle.

Rough Tops

Rough tops can also be caused by a number of different issues. The most common are the temperature of the wax when poured, and the speed at which the candle cools back to a solid state. We use several different processes to prevent this, including very carefully controlling temperature, and pouring a thin topping layer to minimize the roughness. However, even with this very precise procedure there are other factors that we can not control. For instance some fragrances and essential oils are more prone to rough tops, and we have not yet found a solution that does not involve additives.

Leaching

Sometimes you may notice liquid seeping out the top of your candle. The liquid that you see is actually fragrance oil and it is being brought to the surface of the candle through a couple of different processes. One major reason can be the addition of too much fragrance to the candle. Then with the addition of a little heat the wax can no longer hold the same amount of fragrance oil and the oil is forced out. However, once again some fragrances are inclined to have this happen even with small amounts. Do not fear though this is easily cleaned up with a cloth or piece of paper towel. Your candle will still smell great and burn without a problem.
